Elon Musk says Telsa will increase workforce days after sending layoff email

Tesla’s employee headcount will rise around the next year, Elon Musk mentioned Saturday — even with an earlier report that he planned to make cuts at his enterprise above fears about the financial state.

“Total headcount will maximize, but salaried [sic] need to be reasonably flat,” Musk tweeted in reaction to a Twitter account predicting Tesla’s staff would increase in excess of the next 12 months.

The multibillionaire’s tweet came two days just after he advised Tesla workers in an email that he has a “super terrible feeling” about the state of the US economic climate, and wanted to lay off all around 10% of the electric powered vehicle maker’s workforce, Reuters reported Friday.

Tesla reps could not right away be reached for comment.

The company employs nearly 100,000.

Tesla’s shares closed down 9.2% on Friday.
