LOS ANGELES — Buck Showalter understood the rule, but the Dodgers ended up still left in the smog.
With his staff trailing the Mets by five operates after the eighth inning Saturday evening, Dodgers supervisor Dave Roberts attempted to insert outfielder Zach McKinstry into the game as a pitcher. MLB procedures say a group need to trail by at minimum six operates before a position player can pitch.
“I saved seeking up at the scoreboard and I assumed I experienced some thing mistaken,” Showalter stated immediately after the Mets’ 9-4 victory at Dodger Stadium. “I kept seeking up, going ‘Nine minus four is 5, appropriate?’ ”
Roberts insisted upon a principles clarification from New York, in accordance to Showalter, which led to a delay. Umpiring crew chief CB Bucknor introduced that McKinstry was ineligible to pitch presented the rating, meaning the Dodgers had to get a reliever warmed up in the bullpen. Showalter downplayed his involvement in the ruling.
