Mets Continue Winning feat. Dwight Gooden

No aces, no problems.

If you’re trying to hit blackjack, that’s a problem. If you’re trying to stay in first place in the NL East, it has not been a problem for the Mets. Well, at least for now. They have gone without Jacob deGrom for the first two months of the season. They will be without their other ace Max Scherzer until at least the All-Star break. Yet here they are, eight games ahead of the Phillies in the division.

To talk about the Mets battling adversity and another series win over the weekend in Colorado, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and I. Good friend of the program and Mets legend Dwight Gooden joins us in the second half of the show.

‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast with Jake & Figgie:

  • ANOTHER SERIES WIN: Happy Birthday Buck Showalter! Happy Belated Birthday Figgie! Mets take two of three against the Rockies in Colorado. Mets are playing fundamental baseball and driving in runs without the home run. Pitching was great. Edwin Diaz continues to get the job done.
  • MAX SCHERZER INJURY/METS RESILIENCY: Scherzer is out until at least July. Time will tell when he comes back, but the Mets will take it slow with the oblique injury so he is healthy for the playoff run. Starling Marte crushes a home run on the first pitch he sees coming back from the bereavement list after the passing of his grandmother. The Mets continue showing their resiliency.
  • BASSITT/ESCOBAR: Chris Bassitt finally gets a deal done through arbitration. Scherzer proving again why he’s a leader after making a speech for Eduardo Escobar for reaching 10 years of MLB service time. Should the Mets make a trade for a starting pitcher and for who?

Dwight Gooden Interview:
1986 World Series champion, Mets legend

  • OLD TIMER’S DAY: Doc will be playing in the game and assumes he will start. Can’t hit much higher than 65 MPH these days. Believes Lenny Dykstra should be invited to play.
  • OWNERSHIP: Sees the huge difference in ownership under Steve Cohen. They are embracing former Mets and inviting them back.
  • BUCK: He has set the tone for this team creating a tight knit clubhouse. Comparing the willingness to fight of this team to his 1986 team.
  • MATT HARVEY: Tried to reach out to Harvey about the drug problem, but never heard back from him. Thinks he could offer him help through the similar experiences he went through.
