Max Scherzer (side discomfort) is Mets' most important player


Shedding Pete Alonso would be detrimental, but with Dominic Smith, the Mets are ably protected guiding him. An hurt Francisco Lindor would be distressing, but would open up the doorway for Luis Guillorme, who is quietly out-hitting the Mets’ $341 million star. Brandon Nimmo has been superb, but Starling Marte can enjoy centre discipline.

Up and down the Mets’ roster are items that in good shape, pieces that, at the very least for a period of time, can be replaced without having throwing out the total puzzle.

Max Scherzer is the exception, which built the scene at Citi Industry on Wednesday evening the most alarming of the season – and the time has highlighted equally Alonso and Lindor receiving beaned around the head.

Right after his 87th pitch of the night time, Scherzer immediately signaled to the dugout that his night was finished. He walked off the mound with a coach, and a pitcher famed for his bulldog nature experienced pulled himself with what the Mets soon termed “discomfort in his still left facet.”
