Joe Kelly calls Josh Donaldson 'a douche' after 'Jackie' comment

The White Sox are not finished with Josh Donaldson.

Soon after the Yankees third baseman was criticized by Tim Anderson, Tony La Russa, and Liam Hendriks for his “Jackie” remark to Anderson on Saturday, a reference to Jackie Robinson, White Sox reliever Joe Kelly additional his thoughts on Monday.

“The dude is a douche,” Kelly stated of Donaldson on the “Parkins & Spiegel Show” on 670 The Rating in Chicago. “That’s horrible. That’s not tolerated in any type of sport … Whatever it is, it wasn’t for superior intentions.”

Donaldson, who was suspended a single sport Monday for his remark, explained the comment was in reference to a 2019 Athletics Illustrated article in which Anderson reported he felt like “today’s Jackie Robinson.” Aaron Choose and Aaron Boone both mentioned they felt Donaldson should not have designed the remark.

Just after Donaldson explained the comment was an inside joke concerning he and Anderson, Hendriks called the rationalization “bulls–t” due to the fact the two never get alongside.

“Whatever he’s expressing, they are not friends,” Kelly explained in the radio job interview. “I am half-Mexican. I have loads of African-American good friends, but I would never ever even say that to my pals that are my boys.”
