Creator of 'Star Wars' Death Star, X-Wing Colin Cantwell dies at 90

Colin Cantwell, the person who developed the spacecraft in the “Star Wars” films, has died. He was 90.

The Hollywood Reporter claimed Sunday that Sierra Dall, Cantwell’s spouse, confirmed that he died at his home in Colorado on Saturday.

Cantwell made the prototypes for the X-wing Starfighter, TIE fighter and Demise Star.

He also worked on films like “2001: A Room Odyssey,” “Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind” and “WarGames.”

Cantwell was born in San Francisco in 1932. Ahead of doing the job on Hollywood films, Cantwell attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where by he received a degree in animation. He also attended Frank Lloyd Wright’s College of Architecture.

In the 1960s he worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NASA on instructional applications about flights. Cantwell labored with NASA to feed Walter Cronkite updates in the course of the 1969 moon landing.

Cantwell wrote two science fictions novels. He is survived by his partner of 24 yrs, Sierra Dall.
