Bob Cousy rips JJ Redick over 'plumbers and firemen' jab

Bob Cousy listened to JJ Redick’s responses about him competing from plumbers and firefighters, and he was not pleased about it.

Cousy appeared on SiriusXM NBA Radio with Justin Termine and Eddie Johnson, where he was asked about Redick’s remarks which arrived in the context of a Chris Paul discussion with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on “First Take”.

“He was getting guarded by plumbers and firemen,” Redick mentioned of Cousy on the Apr. 20 episode.

The 6-time NBA winner waited pretty much a thirty day period to enter the fray, and it was worthy of it.

“People with less expertise will often check out to make a title for on their own by criticizing other people today and hopefully obtaining some notice and perhaps rising their believability,” Cousy said.

“So when you answer to one thing like this, you enjoy into their arms. I will not do that, but I will defend the firemen and the plumbers that he referenced. And I’ll just give you a several of the names of these firemen that I played with and against during these decades. How about Monthly bill Russell, the aforementioned, not far too poor a participant. Wilt Chamberlain, don't forget that male? He was not bad. I guess he ought to have fought fires as very well. But in any function, Wilt Chamberlain.”

Cousy, 93, continued to name all-time greats who he performed with and against as a member of the Celtics from 1951 through 1970.

“Still the ideal, in my judgment, modest forward that at any time played the video game, a male named Elgin Baylor,” Cousy said. “A pair of place guards that weren’t way too shabby, my colleague who also experienced an award designed [in his name], guy named Oscar Robertson, who was pound for pound the very best participant potentially in the activity.

“Jerry West was not also shabby. The men on our staff, Sam and K.C. Jones, a dude named “Hondo” Havlicek wasn’t way too undesirable. Tom Heinsohn, Frank Ramsey, George Mikan, Bob Pettit, I could go on and on. We should have had the most effective firemen and plumbers on the world at the time. And I was quite proud to play with all of them.”
