The BBC was forced to apologise to Manchester United admirers on Tuesday soon after a concept appeared on their news ticker labelling the Leading League club as “rubbish”.
The insult popped up at the base of the display during a tennis update.
Later on in the morning, a presenter apologised to any United supporters who may possibly have been offended.
She explained the miscalculation had transpired as anyone was mastering how to operate the ticker and was “writing random issues not in earnest”.
The presenter explained: “A tiny earlier, some of you may well have noticed anything rather unusual on the ticker that runs alongside the base of the monitor with information making a remark about Manchester United, and I hope that Manchester United fans weren’t offended by it.
“Let me just reveal what was going on — driving the scenes anyone was instruction to find out how to use the ticker and to place text on the ticker, so they were being just crafting random items not in earnest and that comment appeared.
“So apologies if you noticed that and you ended up offended and you are a enthusiast of Manchester United.”
A BBC assertion to the PA news agency said: “There was a specialized glitch throughout instruction with our exam ticker, which rolled around to live programming for a couple seconds. We apologised for any offence caused on air.”
BBC presenter and Manchester City admirer Clive Myrie tweeted: “I had very little to do with this!!” with the hashtag #mcfc.
Manchester United, who have not gained silverware because 2017, finished sixth in the leading-flight table with their least expensive details tally of the Premier League period.
