Yankees' Nestor Cortes gets immaculate inning ball back

BALTIMORE — Nestor Cortes will have a memento to remember Sunday’s immaculate inning by — even if it took some bartering from Gerrit Cole.

Soon after Cortes struck out the aspect on nine pitches in the fourth inning from the Orioles, catcher Kyle Higashioka jogged off the field and tossed the ball into the stands powering the Yankees’ dugout at Camden Yards.

Higashioka quickly faced some grief upon moving into the dugout — with Cole and other teammates appearing to chant “shame” and “a– hole” in his way.

But Cole was equipped to retrieve the ball from the stands, providing the fan who caught it one more ball (perhaps with his signature on it) in trade for the activity ball.

Cortes’ immaculate inning arrived amid a stretch of six straight strikeouts. He afterwards exited the game in the sixth inning with a new occupation-high of 12 strikeouts, surpassing the 11 punchouts he recorded versus the Orioles final September.
