Don’t appear now, but the Yankees may have a new starting catcher.
Jose Trevino was behind the plate once again Wednesday night in opposition to the Orioles. It was Trevino’s fourth commence in the last six games, as Kyle Higashioka’s issues at the plate continue — and Trevino proceeds to impress defensively.
As he has reported considering that Trevino arrived in a trade from the Rangers throughout spring schooling, supervisor Aaron Boone reiterated Wednesday he believes Trevino and Higashioka are a very good “tandem” and he expects both to play a large amount.
But Trevino has verified to be accurately what the Yankees had hoped for when it comes to pitch framing and activity-organizing with pitchers — which includes with Gerrit Cole, who experienced his most effective start off of the younger period pitching to Trevino in his very last outing.
“I’ve been truly impressed with the full deal,’’ Boone mentioned. “I figured we were having a genuinely superior catcher. I would say [my expectations] have been surpassed.”

Though Trevino showed far more everyday living at the plate to open up the period, he entered Wednesday -for-8 with a wander — despite the fact that no strikeouts — in his former 3 games.
With the rest of the offense having been a lot more effective these days, the Yankees haven’t relied as much on the base of the lineup, whether or not that’s Trevino or Higashioka.
Higashioka has been a mess at the plate due to the fact leaving Tampa in spring training.
After displaying the energy the Yankees have favored throughout the spring, Higashioka is just 4-for-36 with a double, an RBI and 11 strikeouts on the time and just 1-for-11 with five strikeouts in his previous five video games.
Trevino’s boost in actively playing time, Boone stated, is “more a products of Trevino and what I come to feel like he is. I however really feel Kyle is gonna get it heading and get that ability stroke. The base line is we have two very good [catchers] who will most likely share a great deal of taking part in time. … I sense like we’re in these kinds of very good hands with individuals two men.”
